It is impossible to
conduct any serious research into the topic of Gypsies or Travelers without
noticing that they are forever at odds with every community in which they live.
Although crime is at the center of this conflict, academicians have displayed a
refusal to honestly discuss this problem. For them, such discussions are viewed
as racist, bigoted, or otherwise hateful speech. Although they occasionally have
no other choice but to acknowledge the obvious, it is often accompanied by an
unsupported, and untrue, declaration that says:
"The crimes committed by these groups are petty, and no different from the
offenses committed by members of all other ethnic groups."
Other
pages on this site are devoted to an explanation of why the theories about crime,
racism, and bigotry are wrong. For now, the following news reports should
help to dispel the petty crime myth.
